Frequently asked questions

Organized answers for all 64 NEXDOWNLOAD tools - covering usage, privacy, formats, limits and browser compatibility.

Using NEXDOWNLOAD

General questions about how the site works, privacy and browser support.

Yes. NEXDOWNLOAD's current browser tools are free to use and do not require an account, subscription or credit card. Open the tool you need, select a local file or enter the required data, process it and download the result from the same browser session.

Some tools have practical file-size or file-count limits because processing happens on your device.

Related: Browse all 64 tools

No. NEXDOWNLOAD runs in the browser and does not require desktop software, browser extensions or a download manager.

A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari is recommended because older browsers may not support newer image formats, codecs or browser APIs.

Related: How NEXDOWNLOAD tools are tested

The current file-processing tools are designed to process supported source files locally in your browser rather than sending them to a NEXDOWNLOAD conversion server.

This means processing speed depends partly on your device's available memory and CPU performance.

Related: Privacy policy

No. Generated results are temporary browser objects until you download them. NEXDOWNLOAD does not provide an online conversion-history library or account storage.

Save important results before closing or refreshing the page.

Large images, PDFs, GIFs, audio and video files require more memory and processing power. High-resolution images and media may also need to be decoded before being processed and encoded again. For unusually large jobs, smaller batches or trusted desktop software may be more practical.

Each file tool displays its accepted file type, number-of-files limit and maximum file size near its upload area.

Remember that the website where you eventually upload the result may have a different size restriction.

Related: File Size Converter

A processing button normally stays disabled until the required input is valid. Check whether:

  • a file has been selected
  • the file type is supported
  • the file is below the displayed limit
  • all required settings are selected
  • the input data is valid

Yes, many tools can run on modern mobile browsers. However, large image batches, PDFs, animated GIFs and video files may work better on a desktop computer because mobile browsers usually have less available memory.

The active processing session and temporary browser objects may be lost. Download your completed result before refreshing, closing the tab or navigating away.

Use the Contact page and provide: tool name, browser, operating system, source format, approximate file size, visible error message, and steps that caused the issue.

Do not send confidential source documents just to demonstrate a problem.

Image Tools

Conversion, compression, resizing, metadata, colors and social-image preparation.

Image Converter

The current Image Converter supports common formats including JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, SVG, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, BMP and AVIF when the browser or included decoder can read the source. Output choices focus on JPG, PNG and WebP.

Browser and operating-system support can still affect unusual files.

Related: Open Image Converter

Use JPG mainly for photographs and broad compatibility. Use PNG when transparency or sharp graphical details matter. Use WebP when you want a modern web-friendly format with good compression and transparency support.

Related: WebP vs JPG guide

Image to WebP Converter

WebP can provide smaller website images while maintaining useful visual quality and can support transparency. It is especially useful for modern websites where reducing transfer size matters.

Keep the original source if you still need compatibility with applications that do not handle WebP well.

Related: Image to WebP Converter

Yes. WebP can store transparent pixels. This makes WebP suitable for many graphics that would otherwise require PNG while potentially providing smaller files.

WebP to JPG Converter

JPG remains widely supported by older applications, upload forms, editors and devices. If a website or application does not accept WebP, creating a JPG version can improve compatibility.

Related: WebP to JPG Converter

JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent pixels must therefore be placed over a solid background when converting a transparent WebP image.

Use PNG instead if transparency must remain.

Image Compressor

Image compression can reduce encoded image quality and, when necessary, dimensions to create a smaller file. How much an image can shrink depends on its format, dimensions, detail and visual complexity.

Related: Open Image Compressor

Not always. A very detailed high-resolution photo contains much more information than a simple logo. Very small targets such as 20KB may require significant quality or dimension reductions.

The compressor aims to produce a practical result at or below the chosen limit.

Compress Image to 20KB

Often, but 20KB is a very restrictive limit. Large photographs may need both strong compression and reduced dimensions. Always check faces, text and document details before submitting the result.

Related: Compress Image to 20KB

Compress Image to 50KB

Reduce unnecessarily large pixel dimensions before applying extremely aggressive quality reduction. Photographs usually compress more efficiently as JPG or WebP than as PNG.

Related: Compress Image to 50KB

Compress Image to 100KB

JPG is generally the safest choice for broad compatibility and adjustable photographic compression. WebP can sometimes provide similar visual quality at a smaller size when the destination supports it.

Related: Compress Image to 100KB

Compress Image to 200KB

Not necessarily. If the destination allows up to 200KB, preserving a clear image at around 170-190KB is normally preferable to unnecessarily degrading it to 30KB. Leave only a sensible margin below the limit.

Related: Compress Image to 200KB

Image Resizer

Resizing changes pixel dimensions such as 4000×3000 to 1200×900. Compression changes how much storage those pixels require. A form may require both an exact pixel size and a maximum KB limit.

No. Increasing width and height creates more pixels but does not recreate detail that was missing from the original image. Ordinary resizing should not be confused with AI image enhancement.

Resize Image to 300×300

Use the dedicated 300×300 resizer. Depending on the selected fit method, the image can be cropped to fill the square or fitted inside it without distortion.

Related: Resize Image to 300×300

No. 300×300 describes pixel dimensions. File size depends on image format, compression, detail and quality. Use Image Compressor afterward if you also have a KB limit.

Related: Image Compressor

Social Image Resizer

It helps prepare an image for commonly used social-media shapes and dimensions without manually entering every size. Always check the resulting crop before publishing because important text or faces near the edges may be removed depending on the fit mode.

Related: Social Image Resizer

GIF Compressor

Yes. The GIF Compressor is designed to re-encode animated GIF frames rather than converting the file into a still image. Reducing dimensions, colors or frames can lower the size but may make motion less smooth.

Related: GIF Compressor

A GIF can contain many individual frames. Long animations, large dimensions and large color palettes therefore require substantially more data than a single image.

Favicon Generator

Start with a simple, preferably square logo or symbol. Fine text and complicated details often become unreadable when reduced to very small favicon dimensions.

Related: Favicon Generator

Color Palette Extractor

The tool analyses image pixel colors and identifies representative or dominant colors from the image. Photographs and gradients may contain thousands of colors, so the extracted palette represents useful dominant values rather than every pixel color.

Related: Color Palette Extractor

Remove Image Metadata

Image metadata may include camera information, timestamps, software details and, in some files, location information. Removing metadata can reduce this hidden information, but visible details inside the photograph may still reveal personal information.

Convert Image to JPG

JPG is useful for photographs, ordinary sharing and upload forms that prioritize compatibility and smaller file sizes. It is not appropriate when transparent backgrounds need to remain transparent.

Related: Convert Image to JPG

Convert Image to PNG

PNG is useful for logos, screenshots, diagrams, graphics and images requiring transparency. A photograph converted to PNG may become significantly larger.

Related: Convert Image to PNG

JPG to PNG Converter

No. PNG prevents additional JPEG-style loss in the newly created file, but it cannot restore details already removed from the original JPG.

Related: JPG to PNG Converter

PNG to JPG Converter

JPG uses lossy compression designed especially for photographic content, while PNG normally preserves pixel data losslessly. For photographs, JPG can therefore be substantially smaller.

Related: PNG to JPG Converter

PNG to WebP Converter

No. Results depend on the image and encoding settings, although WebP often performs well for web graphics and photographs. Compare the result rather than assuming one format will always be smaller.

Related: PNG to WebP Converter

WebP to PNG Converter

No. If the WebP source was originally encoded with lossy compression, converting it to PNG cannot recreate discarded detail.

Related: WebP to PNG Converter

HEIC to JPG Converter

HEIC can store high-quality photographs efficiently, but some applications and upload forms still expect JPG. JPG provides much broader compatibility.

Related: HEIC to JPG Converter

Instagram Image Resizer

No. It prepares the image dimensions locally. You still download the result and upload it to Instagram yourself.

Related: Instagram Image Resizer

YouTube Thumbnail Resizer

No tool can guarantee acceptance because YouTube can change its requirements and also checks file format and file size. The resizer helps prepare the image dimensions; check the current YouTube requirements before publishing.

Related: YouTube Thumbnail Resizer

Facebook Cover Resizer

Cover displays can be cropped differently depending on screen shape and interface layout. Keep important logos, faces and text away from extreme edges.

Related: Facebook Cover Resizer

Profile Picture Resizer

Many services display square profile images inside circular or differently cropped frames. Keeping the face or logo near the center reduces the chance of important content being clipped.

Related: Profile Picture Resizer

PDF & File Tools

Create PDFs, organize pages, inspect documents and understand file sizes.

PDF Converter

Yes. Supported images can be arranged in the file queue and converted into a PDF with one image per page. Confirm the page order before creating the document.

Related: PDF Converter

Use Match Image when preserving the original shape is the priority. Use A4 or US Letter when the recipient expects standard document dimensions.

File Size Converter

MB normally uses decimal measurement, while MiB uses binary measurement. This is one reason different systems can display slightly different numbers for the same file.

Related: File Size Converter

No. The File Size Converter converts the numerical measurement only. It does not compress or modify the file.

Merge PDF

Normally, page merging changes the document structure rather than deliberately recompressing page contents. The original files should still be kept until the merged result has been inspected.

Related: Merge PDF

Split PDF

Split PDF separates pages from a multi-page PDF into smaller PDF files according to the options provided by the tool.

Related: Split PDF

Extract PDF Pages

Extracting lets you create a new PDF containing the selected pages. Splitting is intended for dividing a document into separate parts or pages.

Delete PDF Pages

The browser tool creates a new result. Keep your original document until you have confirmed that the correct pages were removed.

Related: Delete PDF Pages

Reorder PDF Pages

Yes. The Reorder PDF Pages tool lets you specify a new page sequence and creates a new PDF using that order.

Related: Reorder PDF Pages

Rotate PDF Pages

Rotation normally changes page orientation rather than intentionally recompressing the visible page content.

Related: Rotate PDF Pages

PDF Page Counter

No. The tool reads the document structure to report the page count and does not intentionally edit the source PDF.

Related: PDF Page Counter

PDF Metadata Viewer

No. Metadata fields such as Author or Creator can be changed or removed and should not be treated as proof of identity or authorship.

Related: PDF Metadata Viewer

Archive Tools

Create, extract and inspect ZIP and GZIP files.

Create ZIP Archive

No. JPG, MP3, MP4 and many other formats are already compressed, so placing them in ZIP may result in little additional size reduction. ZIP is still useful for packaging several files together.

Related: Create ZIP Archive

Extract ZIP Files

Encrypted ZIP structures may not be supported by the browser extraction workflow. Use trusted desktop archive software when password-protected or encrypted archives are involved.

Related: Extract ZIP Files

ZIP Contents Viewer

No. It can inspect filenames and archive structure, but it is not an antivirus or malware scanner.

Related: ZIP Contents Viewer

GZIP Compressor

ZIP is designed to package multiple named files and folders. GZIP normally compresses one data stream and is commonly used when a .gz file is specifically required.

Related: GZIP Compressor

GZIP Decompressor

For a valid GZIP stream, decompression reconstructs the original uncompressed data contained in that stream.

Related: GZIP Decompressor

Security & Checksum Tools

Verify file integrity and generate hashes, checksums and HMAC values.

File Hash Generator

A file hash is a fixed-length value calculated from the file's bytes. Even a small change to the source usually produces a different cryptographic hash.

Related: File Hash Generator

No. A matching checksum can confirm that file bytes match a trusted reference. It does not prove that the publisher is trustworthy or that the file contains no malware.

Related: Checksum Compare Tool

Checksum Compare Tool

Do not assume the file is the expected copy. Re-download it from the trusted original source and compare the checksum again.

Related: Checksum Compare Tool

CRC-32 Checksum Calculator

CRC-32 is useful for accidental-error detection and legacy compatibility, but it is not a modern cryptographic integrity algorithm. Prefer SHA-256 when a trustworthy modern checksum is available.

Related: CRC-32 Calculator

MD5 Checksum Generator

MD5 should not be relied on as proof against deliberate tampering because known collision weaknesses exist. It remains useful when a legacy workflow specifically publishes an MD5 checksum.

Related: MD5 Checksum Generator

Text Hash Generator

No. Encryption is designed so authorized users can recover the original data with a key. A cryptographic hash is designed as a one-way digest.

Related: Text Hash Generator

HMAC Generator

A normal hash uses only the input data. HMAC combines the message with a secret key, allowing someone who possesses the same secret to verify message authenticity.

Related: HMAC Generator

Video Tools

Resize short clips, inspect video information and capture thumbnails.

Short Video Resizer

Modern browsers expose certain WebM-compatible encoding capabilities directly through browser APIs. Available codecs can vary by browser and operating system.

Related: Short Video Resizer

Video Metadata Inspector

A browser can expose useful information such as dimensions, duration and some playback properties but does not necessarily expose every stream-level field available to professional utilities such as FFmpeg or MediaInfo.

Related: Video Metadata Inspector

Video Thumbnail Maker

No. The tool captures a selected frame and creates an image from it. The source video remains unchanged.

Related: Video Thumbnail Maker

TikTok Video Resizer

No. The tool prepares a downloadable resized video. Publishing to TikTok remains a separate step performed by you.

Related: TikTok Video Resizer

Instagram Video Resizer

No. Dimensions are only one part of media compatibility. Container, codec, duration, bitrate and changing platform requirements can also matter.

Related: Instagram Video Resizer

Audio Tools

Convert, trim and adjust audio files locally in the browser.

Audio Converter

MP3 is compact and convenient for ordinary sharing. WAV is much larger but useful when uncompressed PCM audio is required for editing or another production workflow.

Related: Audio Converter

Extensions such as M4A or OGG can contain different underlying codecs. The browser must be able to decode the actual codec used inside the file.

Audio Trimmer

No. The tool creates a new trimmed result. Keep the original recording when you may need the full version later.

Related: Audio Trimmer

Audio Volume Booster

Yes. If gain pushes audio beyond its available peak range, clipping can occur and produce audible distortion. Use larger boosts carefully and listen to the result before replacing an important file.

Related: Audio Volume Booster

MP3 to WAV Converter

No. MP3 compression has already discarded some information. Converting the decoded audio to WAV cannot recreate those lost details.

Related: MP3 to WAV Converter

WAV to MP3 Converter

MP3 can make audio substantially smaller and easier to share. The trade-off is lossy compression, so keep an original WAV master when maximum source quality matters.

Related: WAV to MP3 Converter

Developer & Data Tools

Format, validate, convert, encode and decode structured text.

JSON Formatter

No. It can identify invalid JSON but should not guess what malformed data was intended to contain. Correct the syntax first and then format it.

Related: JSON Formatter

JSON Validator

It checks whether the supplied text follows valid JSON syntax. Syntax validation is different from validating business rules or a custom JSON Schema.

Related: JSON Validator

JSON to CSV Converter

Not in an ordinary flat CSV table. Nested objects and arrays generally need intentional flattening before they can be represented cleanly as rows and columns.

Related: JSON to CSV Converter

CSV to JSON Converter

The header row provides the property names used when table rows are converted into JSON objects. A malformed or missing header can therefore produce an incorrect structure.

Related: CSV to JSON Converter

XML Formatter

No. Checking that XML is well formed is different from checking whether it follows a particular XML Schema or business specification.

Related: XML Formatter

Base64 Encoder

No. Base64 is a reversible encoding method used to represent data as text. Anyone who receives the Base64 value can decode it. Do not use Base64 as a privacy or security mechanism.

Related: Base64 Encoder

Base64 Decoder

Base64 can represent binary data as well as ordinary text. If the original data was an image, executable, archive or another binary format, interpreting the decoded bytes as UTF-8 text may appear unreadable.

How to use the FAQ efficiently

The FAQ is organized by the same seven categories as the toolbox. Start with the category that owns the file problem, then use the individual tool subsection if the question is about a specific converter or utility. Each question occupies its own full-width row so the page remains easy to scan on desktop and mobile.

For a question that needs examples, trade-offs or troubleshooting steps, follow the related guide link instead of trying to fit an entire article inside an accordion answer. The FAQ is the quick-reference layer; the 350-guide library is the deeper reference.

What an FAQ answer can and cannot promise

Answers describe the current NEXDOWNLOAD interface and common file behavior. They cannot guarantee that every unusual file variant, browser codec or third-party platform will behave identically. Where a destination controls the final rule, check that destination before submitting an important file.

If an answer is no longer accurate, use Contact and include the exact question, page URL and what changed. FAQ corrections should be synchronized with related tool pages and guides so the site does not give conflicting advice.

Privacy questions are separated from file-format questions

Local source-file processing, ordinary website requests, cookies, analytics and advertising are different topics. The FAQ gives quick explanations, while the Privacy and Cookie policies contain the detailed treatment. A claim that a supported tool handles a source file locally does not mean the web page makes zero network requests.

For highly sensitive or regulated material, the relevant organizational policy should decide whether a public browser tool is appropriate. Convenience is not a substitute for formal security or compliance requirements.
