How it works

Use Video Metadata Inspector in three steps

  1. 1

Choose a video from your device.

  2. 2

Wait for the browser to read its playable metadata.

  3. 3

Review the details and copy the values you need.

What the browser can inspect

The tool reads information exposed by the browser video element and the selected file. It can calculate duration, pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and an approximate average bitrate from file size and duration.

It does not expose every codec tag, camera field or embedded stream. For forensic or production-level analysis, use a dedicated utility such as MediaInfo or FFprobe.

Estimated bitrate is an average

The calculation includes the whole file and does not separate audio from video. Variable-bitrate files can use much more data in complex scenes and less in simple scenes.

Questions

Frequently asked about Video Metadata Inspector

Is the file uploaded?+

No. The browser reads the selected file locally.

Why can the tool not open my video?+

The file container may be supported while the codec inside it is not available in your browser.

Is the bitrate exact?+

It is an average estimate based on total file size and duration, not a detailed stream analysis.
